Using Vizzn and HCSS Construction Software - a Case Study
08 September 2022
A Case Study with; Bill Borger the CEO of the Borger Group of Companies
About Borger: Borger has been in construction since 1919. Based in Calgary, Borger Group of Companies is a force in earth moving, underground construction, transport, and general contracting. Borger's substantial negotiable client base is testimony to its unparalleled emphasis on service and efficiency. The company's unique production methodology, its substantial equipment reserves of more than 200 pieces and a team of more than 300 employees, combine for the quickest project turn around in the industry. Borger Group is a current subscriber of both Vizzn and HCSS software.
Question #1: What separate HCSS Products and what portions of the Vizzn Platform are you using?
We use the following separate HCSS products: Heavyjob, Fueler Plus and E360. Within the single Vizzn software we use dispatch and scheduling, interactive drawings, quality control, extra billings, job scheduler and safety forms.
Question #2: What is the difference between Vizzn and HCSS products?
In one sentence, Vizzn provides proactive construction management solutions that help contractors optimize tomorrow while HCSS provides software for bidding and tracking that enable users to analyze the results of yesterday. Both functions are necessary and a key part of Borger’s operations.
Question #3: Some contractors are reluctant to consider a new software saying “we don’t want multiple construction software systems” what do you say to this?
First, HCSS is not one software but a bunch of separate software packages. And, those packages rely on a ‘limited user seat system” that makes it uncommon for a user in Heavyjob to also have a seat in e360 or fueler plus and vise versa. As a result, transparency between divisions is limited.
By comparison Vizzn is one software with multiple different solutions that seamlessly interact all from one login with no user limits. Vizzn’s software provides solutions for dispatch and scheduling, extra billings, quality control, safety and construction management all in one easy-to-use platform.
Question #4: What processes will change by adding Vizzn to your Software Solutions?
For its dispatch and scheduling solution Vizzn simply replaces phone calls; that’s it! The resulting information sharing is priceless. With Vizzn, every person can clearly see the impact that other divisions are going to have on their job sites, equipment, and people - all before it ever happens. As it pertains to Vizzn’s patent pending Interactive drawings and site maps, the benefits to every single division having site awareness are obvious. Borger views Vizzn as the world leader in dispatch and scheduling for companies like ours and really anyone working within the heavy civil construction space.
Question #5: What is the biggest difference between Vizzn Solutions and HCSS Solutions
Vizzn is a proactive and real time construction management solution. Its does this by providing seamless communication and transparency between divisions for future events and dispatch requests. Vizzn enables companies Supers, PMs and PCs to focus on optimizing tomorrowthe day before.
HeavyJob, E360 and Fuelerplus provide historical “accounting information” that has limited value in visibility towards tomorrow.
Question #6: If you had to choose one software would it be HCSS or Vizzn?
Bidding, job costing and time keeping – provided by HCSS is a definitely a critical part of running a successful construction company. On the other hand, not knowing when (or if) equipment, materials, gravel, or fuel is arriving to each site is insanity. I think both products are necessary and work exceptionally well in synergy; Vizzn’s suite of tools in conjunction with Heavybid, Heavyjob and E360 currently make a perfect match.
“I love Vizzn’s all-in-one platform functionality. A construction site is like an orchestra except instead of instruments it has people, equipment and resources. When everyone is playing from the same sheet music, it’s a finely tuned orchestra and a thing of beauty. And if everyone isn’t, it’s like watching a group of third-graders perform at their first band concert. It just hurts!”.
